If you really want to get off the beaten track then this demanding walk up to a peak of Whitsunday Island may be just the answer. Not for the faint-hearted, this challenging four kilometre trail, from the northern most beach on the island, takes you back through time.
Starting at Cairn Beach you will have a hard climb up through towering hoop pines and dry rainforest to a ridge where you will walk through drier open woodland dominated by giant grass-trees. Ultimately you will emerge onto a wind-exposed rocky outcrop below the towering Whitsunday Cairn for memorable views of Whitsunday Passage and the islands. There are triangular track markers along the way but no defined track so be careful, allow at least three hours to complete and only contemplate this exercise if you are a fit and experienced walker....
